About our tools

Image editing, without the extra steps

Pixelate Photo is a collection of free online tools for adding mosaic effects, making pixel art, and working with editable pixel grids. You can get started without creating an account.

What is Pixelate Photo?

Pixelate Photo helps you give a picture a blocky mosaic effect, create retro pixel art, or cover faces before sharing a photo. Choose an image or start with a blank grid, make changes until you're happy with the result, and download your picture.

Not every picture needs the same kind of editing. If you want to hide a face, try the Face Pixelator. For a retro-style photo, use Photo to Pixel Art. And if you want to draw one square at a time, open the Pixel Art Grid Maker.

How editing works

The image tools use your browser to read, preview, and edit pictures. The picture you select stays on your device while you edit it. You can try changes before deciding what to download. Most tools accept JPG, PNG, and WebP; available downloads vary by tool and include PNG, JPG, WebP, or blank grid templates.

  • No account needed to use the editors.
  • No watermark added to downloads.
  • Your image editing takes place on your device.
  • You choose when and what to download.

The Face Pixelator looks for faces on your device and suggests areas to cover. It can miss small, turned, or partly hidden faces, so check the result before sharing. The grid drawing tool also runs locally and lets you change individual squares after importing a picture.

Privacy matters, and so does checking the result

You can edit photos without creating an account or uploading them to us for processing. Your browser still downloads the website and any files a tool needs to run, and our hosting provider may receive technical information about those visits. Read our Privacy Policy for details.

Pixelation is a visual effect, not a guarantee of anonymity. Clothing, surroundings, or even the shape of a face can still reveal someone's identity. If you need to hide sensitive information, review the entire photo and consider fully covering the relevant area instead. Automatic face detection is a starting point, not a final privacy check.

Made for everyday photo and pixel art projects

You might use Pixelate Photo to obscure someone in a group picture, create pixel-style artwork for a personal project, prepare a simple game sprite, or print an empty grid for drawing by hand. You do not need professional editing software just to try one of these tasks. Each tool includes practical explanations and examples to help you get started.

When you're finished, the downloaded file is yours to manage. Be sure you have permission to use and share the underlying photo or other content. If you're working with someone else's picture, follow applicable rights and privacy expectations.

What you can expect

The tools explain the main controls, image formats, and download choices. You can use them on desktop or mobile browsers. Some large images can be slow to open or export on devices with limited memory. If an image is too large, try a smaller copy. Your unfinished edits won't be saved for another visit, so download your work before refreshing or closing the tab.

If something doesn't work as expected, let us know which tool you were using, what you tried, and what happened. Please do not send private images or passwords as part of a general support report.
